Historic Happenings:

Silver-Leaved Weeping Lime

Image

This is one of the many grafted trees within the cemetery. These limes are forming avenues around the roadways of the cemetery. The symbolism of the candelabra shape and fluttering leaves is for the eternal flame. Grafting was done at about 2m. This is where the cambium layer of the Rootstock (Tilia platyphyllos Large-Leaved Lime) was joined together with the top stock (Tilia tomentosa 'Petiolaris' Silver-Leaved Weeping Lime), and then framed and trained into the trees you see before you.
