Joe Vickers:

Joseph Reuben Vickers, a prize-fighter, watchmaker and publican, died on Friday 12th January 1906. He ran the Old Wheel tavern, 2 Leicester Row. As a watchmaker, Joe sent a gold watch to Queen Victoria for her Diamond Jubilee in 1897, which had her portrait on the dial. He received a letter of thanks for the gift, which he proudly displayed in the smoke-room at the Old Wheel.
